Extract from Parish Council meeting - 13th October
Public - Four members of public were present, one member relating to presentation on Item 6, one parish councillor clerk to listen to item 6, and two members of public to observe meeting.
Litter Issues - Findings from parish councillor surveys demonstrated that there was too much waste in domestic black bins and overflow occurred. Bins were left permanently on the street even after collection. Extra waste left out in black refuse sacks was not collected which often had been ripped open by foxes etc causing waste / litter to be blown around which was often caught and embedded in vegetation.
Three parish councillors attended a meeting with UWE relating to community liaison as a response to resident concerns. Attending meeting was UWE Environmental Report representative, Sean Rhodes from SGC, representative from Bristol City Council (waste management), parish council representatives and members of public representing residents’ point of view.
Discussions and proposals were put forward as to what can be done with issues based around HMO’s and who can take actions. UWE / SGC looked at issues and knocked on doors as a process of educating residents to improve the situation. Cllr Sean Rhodes detailed changes to the (SGC) waste collection regime which included change to times and bins. It is believed that these changes may solve many of the current issues.
Litter Pick – A further meeting will take place in December where Cllrs would be pleased to attend and raise the possibility of a community litter pick on a regular basis. A confirmed litter pick will take place on 5th November PM organised by UWE where students will also be involved. Also to engage the retirement village to encourage involvement. (Meeting on 14th October).
Remembrance Sunday - Concern was raised relating to the laying of the council wreath on Remembrance Sunday as there is nowhere formal within the parish to lay this. The only formal (British Legion) alternative is in Stoke Gifford. It was proposed that a local location should be used and that the Parish Council will continue to lay the wreath at the organised remembrance ceremony at the retirement village.
Full minutes of this meeting will be uploaded onto this website after approval from councillors at the November meeting.
