What is a Parish Council?
The Council has an overall responsibility for the well-being of the local community with their work falling into the three main areas of representation, delivering services and striving to improve quality of life in the parish. This work is achieved using the funds collected from all residents by the setting of a Precept which is collected through the Council Tax system.
What is the role of a Parish Councillor?
A councillor's primary role is to represent their parish and the people who live in it. Councillor's provide a bridge between the community and the district council representing their views at council meetings. Also councillors may lead local campaigns on behalf of residents.
When does the Council meet?
Stoke Park and Cheswick Parish Council holds a meeting on the second Monday of each month at the Stoke Gifford Retirement Village (7.00PM). Residents are always welcome to attend and if required may have five minutes at the start of each meeting to speak about any local issues.
How do I become a Councillor?
The Parish Council Clerk will be pleased to discuss what the role will involve and the procedure for being co-opted as a Councillor. Currently there is one vacancy.
